A shining example of bulthaup's holistic approach can be found in its painting shop. The self-contained system processes environmentally-friendly, water-based varnish in a dust-free zone − a condition also essential for the production of aerospace technologies or silicon chips. The UV hardening system in the production plant makes every varnish easier to care for, more durable and more resistant to scratches.

The varnishes satisfy the bulthaup standard if they have undergone positive testing for 20 days, in other words ten times longer and under much tougher climatic changes than the regular kitchen furniture standard requires.

In the bulthaup varnishing shop, man and machine work hand-in-hand to achieve outstanding precision. One shining example of this is our brilliant coating. Including primer, a total of 580 g of coating is applied to every square meter in four layers. The result is visual charm and depth similar to the top-rate varnish on a piano. All edges are carefully sanded by hand between every coat.
